THE LIFE OF SALVATION
FROM THE APOSTLES PAUL AND JOHN
From the New Living Translation
4 So then, dear friends, the point is this: The law no longer holds you in its power, because you died to its power when you died with Christ on the cross. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, you can produce good fruit, that is, good deeds for God. 5 When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced sinful deeds, resulting in death. 6 But now we have been released from the law, for we died with Christ, and we are no longer captive to its power. Now we can really serve God, not in the old way by obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way, by the Spirit.
[YES AS JESUS SAID, GOD IS SPIRIT (MADE OF SPIRIT), AND THEY WHO WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH. JESUS CAME TO MAGNIFY THE LAW (Isaiah 42: 21— righteousness is defined for us in Ps. 119: 172), WHICH HE CLEARLY DID IN MATTHEW 5, 6, 7 - Keith Hunt]
God's Law Reveals Our Sin
7 Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is evil? Of course not! The law is not sinful, but it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, "Do not covet." 8 But sin took advantage of this law and aroused all kinds of forbidden desires within me! If there were no law, sin would not have that power.
[SO IN THE NEW TESTAMENT COVENANT THE LAW OF GOD, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS STILL EXISTS, OF COURSE FOR THE LAW TELLS US WHAT SIN IS; IF THE LAW WAS “DONE AWAY WITH” IN CHRIST, THEN SO WAS SIN, FOR AS PAUL SAID “….BUT SIN IS NOT IMPUTED WHERE THERE IS NO LAW” (CHAP. 5:13) AND “….FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN” (CHAP. 3: 20). AND “FOR ALL HAVE SINNED, AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD” (CHAP. 3: 23). THE LAW OF GOD IS STILL IN FORCE AND EFFECT, HOLDING ALL IN ITS DEADLY GRIP BECAUSE “THE LAW WORKS WRATH, FOR WHERE NO LAW IS, THERE IS NO TRANSGRESSION” (CHAP. 4:15). THOSE WHO TRY TO TEACH PAUL “DID AWAY WITH LAW” IN OTHER EPISTLES OF HIS, ARE TWISTING AND PERVERTING PAUL’S WRITINGS, THEY NEED TO REPENT AND GO BACK TO SCHOOL, TO REALLY UNDERSTAND PAUL. HE NEVER CONTRADICTED HIMSELF - Keith Hunt]
9 I felt fine when I did not understand what the law demanded. But when I learned the truth, I realized I had broken the law and was a sinner, doomed to die.
10 So the good law, which was supposed to show me the way of life, instead gave me the death penalty. 11 Sin took advantage of the law and fooled me; it took the good law and used it to make me guilty of death. 12 But still, the law itself is holy and right and good.
[HERE PAUL IS PERSONIFYING SIN, AS IF SIN WAS A PERSON WHO TOOK THE LAW OF GOD, HELD IT UP IN FRONT OF A PERSON, AND SAID, “THERE YOU SEE YOU HAVE NOT KEPT THE LAW, SO YOU ARE A SINNER, AND SO YOU HAVE THE DEATH SENTENCE UPON YOU.” - Keith Hunt].
13 But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my doom? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God's good commandment for its own evil purposes.
[AGAIN PAUL PERSONIFIES SIN, AS A PERSON USING THE GOOD LAW OF GOD, TO BRING EVIL UPON PEOPLE, TO CONDEMN PEOPLE. LIKE A POLICE MAN CAN USE THE GOOD SPEED LIMIT LAW (MEANT TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE AND HAPPY AND SECURE) TO BRING CONDEMNATION AND A PENALTY FOR THOSE WHO BREAK THE SPEED LIMIT LAW - Keith Hunt]
Struggling with Sin
14 The law is good, then. The trouble is not with the law but with me, because I am sold into slavery, with sin as my master.15 I don't understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate.16 I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong, and my bad conscience shows that I agree that the law is good. 17 But I can't help myself, because it is sin inside me that makes me do these evil things.
18 I know I am rotten through and through so far as my old sinful nature is concerned. No matter which way I turn, I can't make myself do right. I want to, but I can't. 19 When I want to do good, I don't. And when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway. 20 But if I am doing what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing it; the sin within me is doing it.
21 It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. 22 I love God's law with all my heart.
[PAUL SURELY NEVER TAUGHT ANY THEOLOGY THAT “DID AWAY WITH LAW” - Keith Hunt]
23 But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind. This law wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. 24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
Life in the Spirit
8 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death. 3 The law of Moses could not save us, because of our sinful nature. But God put into effect a different plan to save us. He sent his own Son in a human body like ours, except that ours are sinful. God destroyed sin's control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the requirement of the law would be fully accomplished for us who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
[NO ONE CAN SAVE THEMSELVES THROUGH THE LAW, FOR THE LAW IMMEDIATELY SAYS TO US, “YOU HAVE BROKEN THE LAW, YOU ARE A SINNER, AND THE SINNER COMES UNDER THE DEATH SENTENCE.” GOD MADE A WAY TO DESTROY SIN’S CONTROL OVER US; HE SENT HIS SON TO BE A SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS - Keith Hunt]
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
[THE CHRISTIAN IS A FORGIVEN PERSON THROUGH CHRIST’S SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS. THEY MUST NOW ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT TO CONTROL THEIR MIND, TO GIVE THEM LIFE AND PEACE. THE CHRISTIAN’S MIND IS NOW UNITED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE NATURE AND MIND OF GOD. THEY LIVE A NEW LIFE WITH THE MIND OF CHRIST IN THEM (PHILIPPIANS 2: 5). THEY ARE NO LONGER DOMINATED BY THE WORKS OF THE FLESH. IF THEY ARE THEY CAN NEVER PLEASE GOD, THEY HAVE NEVER REALLY BECOME A CHILD OF GOD, THEY HAVE NEVER HAD REAL IN-DEPTH REPENTANCE OVER SIN; AND AS JESUS TAUGHT WITHOUT REAL REPENTANCE ALL WILL PERISH (LUKE 13: 1-5) - Keith Hunt]
9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them are not Christians at all.) 10 Since Christ lives within you, even though your body will die because of sin, your spirit is alive because you have been made right with God.! 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as he raised Christ from the dead, he will give life to your mortal body by this same Spirit living within you.
12 So, dear Christian friends, you have no obligation whatsoever to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you keep on following it, you will perish. But if through the power of the Holy Spirit you turn from it, and its evil deeds, you will live. 14 For all who live by the Spirit of God are children of God.
IT’S REALLY PRETTY SIMPLE TO BE A CHILD OF GOD; YOU ACKNOWLEDGE GOD’S LAW TELLS YOU WHAT SIN IS; YOU ACKNOWLEDGE YOU ARE A SINNER; YOU REPENT OF SIN; YOU ACCEPT CHRIST JESUS AS YOUR PERSONAL SAVIOR; YOU ARE BAPTIZED (AS PAUL SHOWED IN ROMANS 6); YOU HAVE THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN YOU, LEADING YOU; YOU LIVE BY THE SPIRIT NOT BY THE WORKS OF THE FLESH.
AS JESUS TAUGHT IN THE GOSPELS BEING A CHILD OF GOD, BEING ONE OF JESUS’ DISCIPLES, YOU LOVE GOD AND HIS WAY OF LIFE, ABOVE ALL THINGS, ABOVE ANY HUMAN PERSON, ABOVE ANYTHING IN THIS PHYSICAL LIFE, ABOVE EVEN YOUR OWN LIFE.
BUT YES YOU ARE STILL IN THE FLESH; YOUR FLESHLY DESIRES DO NOT LEAVE YOU WHEN YOU BECOME A CHILD OF THE FATHER. YOUR FLESH TELLS YOU THAT YOU MUST STILL EAT, STILL DRINK LIQUIDS, STILL HAVE SLEEP; BUT ALSO THOSE OLD FLESHLY WRONG DESIRES AND PULLS OF THE FLESH TOWARDS SIN, ARE STILL THERE ALSO.
WE PUT DOWN THOSE WRONG WORKS OF THE FLESH, WITH THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT; YET SOMETIMES SIN GETS US, SOMETIMES IN MIND, WORD, DEED, WE FALL SHORT, WE MISS THE MARK—— WE SIN!
SO WHERE ARE WE? WHAT DO WE DO?
IT IS THE APOSTLE JOHN WHO TELLS US.
1 JOHN 1:
6 [So] if we say we are partakers together and enjoy fellowship with Him when we live and move and are walking about in darkness, we are [both] speaking falsely and do not live and practice the Truth [which the Gospel presents].
7 But if we [really] are living and Walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations], 8 If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude and lead ourselves astray, and the Truth [which the Gospel presents] is not in us [does not dwell in our hearts].
9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins. He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].
10 If we say (claim) we have not sinned, we contradict His Word and make Him out to be false and a liar, and His Word is not in us [the divine message of the Gospel is not in our hearts].
My little children, I write you these things so that you may not violate God's law and sin. But if anyone should sin, we have an Advocate (One Who will intercede for us) with the Father—[it is] Jesus Christ [the all], righteous [upright, just. Who conforms to the Father's will in every purpose, thought, and action].
2 And He [that same Jesus Himself] is the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins, and not for ours alone but also for [the sins of] the whole world ----- FROM the AMPLIFIED BIBLE.
AH YES JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD; HE LIVES; HE IS IN HEAVEN , ON THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD THE FATHER; HE IS STILL AN ATONING SACRIFICE FOR SINS; HE IS ALSO A FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST AS THE WONDERFUL BOOK OF HEBREWS TELLS US.
JESUS IS AN INTERCEDING HIGH PRIEST ON OUR BEHALF; THIS IS SHOWN CLEALY BY THE BOOK OF HEBREWS. YOU MAY WANT TO READ THIS BOOK DURING THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD.
“FOR THERE IS ONE GOD (THE FATHER) AND ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MAN, THE MAN CHRIST JESUS” (1 TIMOTHY 2: 5).
IT IS THROUGH JESUS THE CHRIST, THAT WE ARE FORGIVEN OUR SINS AS WE WALK ALONG THE SALVATION ROAD TO ETERNAL LIFE.
GIVE THE FATHER HONOR, PRAISE, AND GLORY, FOR HIS WONDERFUL PLAN OF OUR SALVATION.
BE EVER THANKFUL JESUS WAS WILLING TO PUT ASIDE THE GODHEAD, TO HUMBLE HIMSELF TO COME A FLESH AND BLOOD MAN [AS GOD IN THE FLESH], TO SACRIFICE HIMSELF, TO SHED HIS BLOOD, ON THE DEATH OF THE CROSS, SO WE COULD HAVE OUR SINS FORGIVEN, AND BECOME THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE FATHER.
