INTRODUCTION TO SECTION ON JAPHETH

We now turn to the second section of this book, dealing with Japheth. From scripture, it would seem that he was the elder. Notice Gen 10:21:

"Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were [children] born.”

The Hebrew seems a little ambiguous and it would appear that "elder" may refer to either Japheth or Shem. However, when let us consider that Shem was 100 years old two years after the Flood (Gen 11:10), that Noah was 500 years of age when he had children (Gen 5:32) and that the Flood devastated the earth in the 600th year of his life. As such his eldest son was at that time 100 years old, whilst Shem only reached his 100th year two years after the Flood. Therefore Japheth must have been the elder of the two. And as such, Ham must have been the younger son. Somehow Japheth lost the birthright to Shem - at least that is the strong inference. As we shall see, God did not enter into a covenant with Japheth but Shem - the concept of birthright shift will be discussed further in the section dealing with Shem.

This has perhaps led to some rivalry between the Shemites and Japhethites over the centuries in similitude to when Esau sold his birthright to Jacob and despised him ever since (Gen 25:20-34; 27:19-29,41) or Reuben versus Joseph (Gen 35:22; 48:17-20; I Chron 5:1-2).

In the first section in this we explore the modem identities of two more descendants of Noah: Dodanim and Tarshish, brothers of Kittim and Elishah and sons of Javan who in turn was son of Japheth and grandson of Noah himself. This section, like the rest of the book, does not employ fancy 'decorations' so as to lengthen the work or to 'entertain' the reader. Rather, my aim is to transmit precious historical and anthropological data to the reader in a readable and easy-to-understand format.

Prepare yourself for a few surprises as we explore the historical facts and detail to piece together a mosaic from available resources and research to present to you, the various proofs of the modern locations of the literal descendants of Dodan and Tarshish. What of their close relatives?

Scholars have wondered at such names as Magog, Gomer, Elishah, Tiras and so forth. Mysterious names indeed, but we shall certainly seek them out and discover where their descendants are today. Methodology which will be employed includes physical anthropology and human biology, linguistics wherever the necessary data may be found, traditions and of course ancient history in order to trace the movements of these peoples.

The names of Magog, Tiras and others, were familiar to their adjacent neighbours in the ancient Near East. We know from various evidence that they were in the region during the decades after the great Flood of Noah. We also know they are not there today; at some point in time, they disappeared for a plethora of reasons. Reasons may have included war, the spirit of adventure, captivity, search for food and supplies, pushing and pressure from other tribes and so on. But migrate they did. It is our duty to seek them out in this section to identify today's modern nations whom, we believe, all descended from Noah.

Where is Tiras? Mystery of Mysteries! For centuries theologians with an historical interest have attempted in vain to identify the origins of the Asiatics and in particular the great variety of American Indian tribes.

Who are they? Whence do they originate? What is their part in God's great plan for the nations of this womb we lovingly describe as 'Mother Earth'? Does prophecy have anything to say concerning their future role in human affairs?

What of Magog, Gomer, Madai, Javan, Tubal and Meschech and other descendants of Japheth?

In this section we shall trace these ancient, obscure tribes from their homes in the Near East over 4,000 years ago and attempt to show, with many proofs and inferences, as well as some strange coincidences, where these tribes and nations are located today.

Father of Billions

Evidently, Japheth is the father of billions of people. As you read this, there are about two billion persons descended from him. For instance, in 1997 the 200 millionth person was born in Indonesia. The baby boy who was born on the island of Lombok was officially proclaimed the 200 millionth inhabitant. Former President Suharto chose his name: Wahyu Nusantara Aji - 'valuable divine revelation for Indonesia'. So impressed are the Government by this landmark, that the Post Office will pay for his education.

In fact, the baby was only one of 8,000 born that day in the Indonesian archipelago which consists of 17,000 islands. The island of Java itself consists of only 6.9 percent of the land mass of the archipelago but has 120 million inhabitants making parts of it the most densely populated places on this planet. Indonesia is the fourth most populous nation on earth after China (1.3 billions), India (1 billion) and the United States (280 million). In fact, India is poised to overtake China soon as the most populous nation. Indeed, "God shall enlarge Japheth" as we are told in Genesis 9:27. This scripture indicates that his descendants would be very populous - especially in these days when we would have a greater understanding of their meaning and relevance.

Kaplan in his The Living Torah 729, notes that the Hebrew is Yaph 't, which is a play on the name Yefeth. This word derives from the root pathah which means to expand. The meaning is that "his descendants would be very populous and would have extensive lands". One statistic which is rather tragic, is that over 200 people are killed every day in road accidents throughout China - indicating the enormous population of the nation. Other populous nations include Japan with 125 million, North and South Korea together number 66 million; Vietnam 77 million; Burma 48 million. In total, the Mongoloid peoples of Asia and their descendants around the world total about 2 billion persons, or about one third of mankind.

Aalders writes:

"The blessing pronounced on Japheth consisted two parts ... This did not refer to personal gain for Japheth, but rather, an abundant increase in the case of Japheth's descendants 730

Today, if one were to travel the region or look at picture books of the region, one would find striking similarities alongside notable differences amongst these peoples. "We might call this a "unity in diversity" 731 writes Kimihro Muraoka. Cultures and ethnic groups flow into one-another in this area. But which of Japheth's sons do the Chinese and Indonesians descend? What of the Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese and the other various oriental peoples?

Ancient peoples were familiar with the name of Japheth. The Greeks called him Iapetos. Other traditions which have been carried over the centuries has been those associating some European Royal lines to Japheth. There have been many works referring to this, including Bill Cooper's After the Flood. Similarly, there have been various Jewish traditions of the Middle Ages as well as Christian traditions attempting to derive the European peoples from Japheth. As we shall see, this is in error. Admittedly, the earliest post-flood persons residing in the British Isles and other parts of Europe were a few Mongoloids, some Turkic peoples and perhaps some fairer descendants of Japheth. Later the Kelts, Angles, Saxons and Normans conquered the British Isles and the tiny remnants of Japheth were overwhelmed, driven out or bred out.

For instance, we have the Gog and Magog undulating chalk hills near Cambridge, Gog Magog rock carvings in the Prescelly Hills, Pembrokeshire, giant earthworks bearing this name in Somerset, an oak forest in North Hampshire called by this name, a similar forest in Glastonbury and of course we have the famous two statues known as Gog and Magog in the Guildhall, London which were erected centuries ago, hit by an air raid in 1940 but replaced in 1953. According to one author "In the Welsh language the word for north is Gogledd, pronounced Gogleth ... Magog means very big, great". 732

This may have given rise to the traditions that the Western Europeans descend from Japheth and leading to the belief that some of the Houses of Europe descend from him. Indeed, the ancient Irish Book of Invasions reveals that descendants of Magog populated the land prior to the Gaedili (Scots) who came from Scythia, via Spain replacing them. From this, confusion arose in the identification of the royal lines in Irish legend.

Throughout Europe, the various Houses claim descent either from Judah via David, from Christ himself or some other origin. The Council of the Princes of Europe which was formed in the 1950s under the auspices of the embryonic European organisations, was established to try and bring peace to the various Houses of Europe which sometimes claim rulership over each others' lands. They promised to cooperate to establish peace and harmony, to prevent fascism, to overcome communism and to eventually establish a democratic Europe, with the various nations hopefully established under constitutional monarchies. 733

As the Church persecuted the orders and Houses associated with the strange ideas about Christ, we may see this occur again should they be too loud in their proclamation and with their Gnostic-like

733. Today, the Houses of Europe may be more-or-less divided into five camps:

ideas. It seems that these two forces are headed for another show-down. But few, if any of the original descendants of Japheth remain in the British Isles.

Come with me as we explore some thrilling mysteries in the time-tunnel of history and identify some more nations and peoples. The reader may also wish to read the fascinating article by Kimihro Muraoka "The Mongoloids surrounding the Pacific Basin", published in Pacific Friend which is useful in this regard.

CHAPTER SEVEN: DODANIM AND TARSHISH

In this chapter we shall discuss the peoples descended from Dodan and in the following sections the amazing truth concerning the western and eastern branches of Tarshish.

UPON COMPLETION OF THIS CHAPTER, THE READER WILL KNOW:

* who most of the French are
* who most of the northern Italians descend from
* that there is an eastern branch of Tarshish
* what part the Japanese play in prophecy

The Descendants of Dodan

The peoples of Dodanim are descendants of Dodan (Dodanim is plural) which are called Rodanim in I Chronicles 1:7. The Sepruagint version translates both Dodanim (in Genesis) and Rodanim (in I Chronicles) as Rhodioi. There is no doubt in the minds of researchers that the Dardanians were originally a people in Asia Minor or western Turkey. 734 Aalders is convinced that the rendering in the Bible should read Dardanim and that this obviously refers to the residents of Asia Minor in the area of Troy which traces its origin to a certain Dardanus. Later we find the city of Dardanus there and the surrounding area became known as Dardany. 735

Undoubtedly the name also refers to the original inhabitants of the Isle of Rhodes, off the western coast of Asia Minor, in the Aegean Sea.736 In his work, Dr. Gayre has the following to say of the matter:

"Dodanim has Rodanim as an alternative reading, and if so it will indicate the inhabitants of Rhodes." 737

The peoples of Rhodes were known as Rhodians or Dardani. The entire chain of islands off Asia Minor were known as the Dodecanese, which means today "twelve islands", Rhodes being the most southerly. The Greeks still call these islands the Dodekanissos, and indeed they belong to Greece.

The bulk of Dodanim migrated through Greece and Yugoslavia and a province in eastern Greece is known as Rodopi. It is the second province before one reaches Turkey. To the south we find the Aegean Sea and Bulgaria lies to the north. Today we still have a mountain range in southern Bulgaria/eastern Greece called the Rhodope Mountains. We also find in ancient Greece a city called Dodana. 738

Ancient historian, Ammianus Marcellinus refers to the Dardani as occupying Illyricum:

"Some asserted that the people first in these regions [Gaul] were...Celts...and Galatae (for so the Greek language terms the Gauls) ... Others stated that the Dorians [ie Greeks]...settled in the lands bordering on the

Ocean ... Some assert that after the destruction of Troy a few of those who fled from the Greeks and were scattered everywhere occupied those regions, which were then deserted." 739

Interestingly, Marcellinus also mentions the city of Dardanus on the Hellespont 740, the Rhodii people of the isle of Rhodes7, a region of Thrace which was known as Rhodopa 742 and the region of Gallograecia, past Nicea. 743

Pliny, in his Natural History 144, refers to the River Rhode running off the Black Sea and a more modern historian, Geipel, reveals that a tribe known as the Rhoddani lived in the Euxine cradleland. 745 Whilst describing the lower Danube area, Pliny says that the "Moesia contains the Dardani". 746 In addition he refers to Mount Rhodope, 747 the "tribe of the Dardani" 748 dwelling on the northwest coast of Greece, the river Rhoedias 749 flowing off the north coast of the Aegean Sea in Macedonia and the town of Rodosto. 750 Historian Lempriere concurs with this but adds that the Trojans were called Dardani or Dardanidae after the region of Dardania. He further asserts that the Dardanelles received its name from them. 751 Strabo makes mention of the Dardanii as dwelling in northern Yugoslavia in association with the Galatae or as an alternative name for the Galatae.752 These Galatae were central European Keltic (West Alpine) tribes. Strabo speaks of "the Dardanian country. This country borders on the Macedonian and the Paeonian tribes on the south". 753

He also refers to these people as the Dardaniatae 754. The Galatae were also known as Gallo-Graecians. 755 Any historian would inform you that these Gallo-Graecians were also known as Kelts and eventually settled in central France.   Some historians even label them as the Kelto-Skuthai or Kelto-Scythians. 756 They were, of course, not the same as the Kelts which invaded the British Isles which DNA testing has proven.

Anthropologist Kephart writes that Keltic intruders (the Umbri from Illyria) "entered the Po River Valley and pushed earlier arrivals ahead of them". 757

And historian Filmer wrote:

"It is important to realise...that the majority of the Celts remained for many years in their settlements in central Europe...a large group burst through the Alps into Italy, pressing on south to sack Rome itself. These were subsequently driven back into northern Italy to become known as the Cis-Alpine Gauls, to distinguish them from [their relatives] the Trans-Alpine Gauls in France". 758

A branch of the Dodanim dwell to this day in northern Italy. They are concentrated in the north and northwest. In this regard, Pliny refers to the tribe of Dardi living in Apulia in Italy.759 Apulia was part of the ancient Magna Graecia.760 In the north-east they dwell near the Bavarians and Illyrians (related to the Albanians and many Yugoslavs). They are of the Alpine sub-racial stock, comprising 25% of the population of Italy. Nearby dwell Nordic descendants of the Ostrogoths, descended from Gether, son of Aram (5% of the population). But most Italians are Mediterranoids (70%). 761

Perhaps the Ligurians may be traced to this stock. We know that they settled for a time the region of Liguria on the west of Italy and it was thought that they may have descended from the Gauls or Greeks and perhaps have been the posterity of the Ligyes which Herodotus referred to. The Ligyes originally inhabited the area between the Caucasus and the river Phasis. 762

The Central French

The Central French are known as Galli, Gallo-Kelts or Gauls. In Gaul they were known as the Celtorii. 763     Brentano writes:

"This name Celt, they gave themselves. Some also called them Galates. The Romans called them Galli". 764

In fact the Roman historians even claimed that the Gauls originally came from the eastern Mediterranean before settling in France. 765 Anthropologist Kephart says that these Gallo-Kelts came from south-eastern Europe near Constantinople.766 One of the major or chief tribes of these French Gauls or Galli was known as the Redones. 767

They named the River Rhodane after themselves which is now known as the Rhone. 768  Pliny states that there was the "former site of Rhoda [a town on the Rhone] 769, a colony of Rhodes, that has given

761.The division between northern, central and southern Italy is quite noticeable. These cultural differences have given rise to the Northern League political party who espouse the old Italian belief that "Africa begins at Rome" (ie the Phoenicians dwell in the south while the Alpines and Nordics dwell in the north). They feel close affinities with Central Europe than the poorer and darker south.

its name to the Rhone" 770 and a tribe in central France known as the Rhedones. 771 In Germany, where many of these Gallo-Kelts settled for a time, we had the Rhadana River. 772 Most of the Walloons of southern Belgium also descend from Dodan, having been cut off from their brethren of central/eastern France by a Nordic element in northern France:

"The name given to the Celtic tribe of the Gauls, taken from the German form Walah, applies to the Valagues, or Walloons, or Gallois, to the Gauls themselves". 773

The Walloons comprise 40% of the population of Belgium. The remaining 60% are overwhelmingly Nordics and are known as the Flemings.

It is also quite possible that a branch of the Dodanim arrived in France by sea. A people called the Ligurians (also referred to above) anciently settled in southern France. "Thus small built were the Ligurian people, their origin linked with the most famous of the Greek colonies, Sicily" 774 writes one historian. Another writes concerning them that

"It should be noted also that the Classical historians found traces of them even in Anterior Asia, evidently their country of origin". 775

This branch stopped over in Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and Languedoc in their journey to France 776. What did they look like? Physical anthropologist John Beddoe further enlightens us of the sub-racial type of the Ligurians:

"A number of skulls ... have furnished the basis for the construction of what is generally called the Ligurian type, a very broad form [i.e. brachycephalic] resembling the Keltic ... the Piedmontese, Kelto-Ligurian, [are] very broad-headed [and] are short" 777

In other words they are Western Alpine in racial type and are thus not the ancestors of the dark, longheaded (dolicocephalic) Mediterranoid element in southern France. Beddoe also terms the Ligurians as Gallokeltic. Other historians call them Celto-Ligurians. Though of an identical brachycephalic Alpine sub-race as the Gauls, they spoke a different language. They spread down into Spain, with many returning to France (primary and reflux movements). 778

A branch of the Ligurians migrated into Portugal 779, but there are none there today. 780 Most Portuguese are descended from Tarshish, while those in the south have mixed to a degree with Semites and Negroids. Many are mixed returnees from Brazil, Timor, Angola and Mozambique. Today a large segment of the population of northern Spain is descended from the Gauls. 781 They settled in Aragon or Galicia, 782 while other Celts settleed in Asturia. 783 It should also be noted that

many of Dodan's descendants, known as Celtae, were known as Celtiberi once they sank their roots in Spain. 784 The Basques of south-west France/northern Spain dwell nearby.

Some Gauls returned to their original homeland in south-east Europe and Asia Minor in c 280 B.C., becoming known as the Galatians 785. But the overwhelming majority remained in France. Back in the sixteenth century A.D., both Pierre David Huet and Samuel Bochart believed and wrote firmly that the majority of French descended from the Dodanim. 786.

Human Biology of the French

The Gauls, Walloons, many northern Spanish and the northern Italians descend, as we have seen, from the Dodanim. All physical anthropologists relate that the Gallo-Kelts are the ancestors of the central French. 787

In terms of physical anthropology, in comparison to Nordics, they are broad-headed (brachycephalic), have a slightly larger and broader nose and slightly deeper skin pigmentation 788 and are shorter in stature on average; in addition they have a much lower percentage of blondes. Today the peoples of France may be divided into three distinct types as they were even in the times of Caesar and described as such by him. 789 In this context it is interesting that the French Revolution was interpreted, at least in part, of a Gaulish uprising against the Frankish ruling aristocracy and that the Franks were driven out of France, killed or depopulated. The central/eastern French and also the majority of Bretons are Dodanim Alpines (55% of the population); the northern French are Nordics (20-25%); those in the north-east are of German stock; the southern French are Mediterranoids, mixed of Canaanites and may be more-or-less added together with north Africans and others (20%). And despite the passing of time, the various ethnic groups in France and the characteristics of the provinces are still very distinctive - and this distinctiveness is treasured. 790

The majority of French Quebecans are descendants of the Alpine element in France, rather than the Nordic element 791. This would suggest a Dodanim majority resident in Quebec. 792 This does not bode well for Canadian unity over the years going forward.

From this I suggest that Quebec stands like a dagger at the heart of North America and its links with anti-Anglo-Saxon France and hence to the German-dominated European Union, may result in it being used as an outpost of the European Union in opposition to North America. This of course is mere conjecture based on deductive reasoning, but it seems very plausible.

I am grateful to Richard Griffiths for alerting me to a new book, Jet Stream by R.L. Muehlberg which was advertised in the American Survival Guide, March 1997, page 57. Here is an extract from the advertisement:

"Why did the U.S. Military Academy reject this book? You figure it out. Jet Stream is set in 2012. It's basic storyline is that the U.S. is a world-weary has-been on the edge of breaking apart. We've spent ourselves into exhaustion. The world's two superpowers are United Europe and the Asia-Pacific Confederation. Quebec is independent. Canada is still in shock. Jet Stream opens with an invasion of the U.S. and Canada by Quebec and U.E.

Let us continue with the human biology of the French. Some may argue that because the Central French are called Kelts, 'therefore they must be related' to the Kelts of the British Isles. This is not the case as physical anthropologists have proven that they are Alpines. A perceptive glance by the naked eye would reveal that to anyone willing to see if he had to visit France.

You see, although the Gallo-Kelts or Gauls spoke a similar language to the Nordic Kelts, they were two totally different sub-racial stocks both of which were called Keltic or Celtic. As a result, confusion has arisen in the minds of researchers according to Professor Carleton Coon. 793

Raymond McNair, author of the manuscript, Key to North-West European Origins 794, also believes such:

"There is every reason to believe that the original Celts, like the early Teutons and Germani, were primarily of 'Nordic' racial type even though a number of round or broad-headed Alpine type were undoubtedly included among them. This name 'Celt' has certainly been applied in later times to some Alpine types".

These Alpine Kelts or Gauls were so impressed by the Nordic Kelts that they liked to relate themselves to these Nordics by dyeing their hair to make it look like these Nordics. 795

The Kelts who came to Britain were of the Nordic variety according to anthropologist John Baker. 796 They were tall, dolicecephalic and fair-skinned. The early Kelts spoke the Q dialect of the Gallo-Kelts, but are racially distinct. It was the Romans who confused the matter by calling both sub-races Galli. The latter Kelts who invaded Britain spoke the P dialect of the Nordic Kelts and who were also Nordic by race. 797 A few Gallo-Kelts who invaded Britain with the Nordic Kelts in the first invasions by them (the Q speaking Kelts), were later driven out of south-western England into Breton in France. 798

Prior to the Q Keltic invasion of Britain by Nordic Kelts and Gallo-Kelts, a Mediterranoid element existed in Wales and southern Ireland known as Silurians. 799 The blood type of some of the olive-skinned tribes of the extreme north-west of Wales and extreme south-west of Ireland are almost identical to the Canaanites of the Mediterranean rim, North Africa, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily and southern Italy, 800 but the vast majority of Irish and Welsh are from the Nordic Kelts (called Celtae or Belgae) and who have maintained their identity. 801

It's just fiction, right? ... Tell me, why would America's future, career officers reject Jer Stream? Maybe it's a future scenario they don't want to think about. What about you?"

I was amazed when I read the advertisement - so close to my own thinking by a man, who, apparently, is not a prophecy buff. Could it be hue? Could a United Europe become allied to an independent Quebec? (since that time I have ordered and read the book).

Let us now turn to Tarshish. Many Bible scholars know where Tubal, Meschech, Elishah and Magog are, as well as Tarshish. How do they go about proving the location of the western branch of Tarshish?

The Western Tarshish

The root form of Tarshish is "rasasu" which means "to be smelted". Tarsisu is derived from this root and means a "smelting-plant" or "refinery". 802 The inhabitants of Tarshish were called Tharsians or Tarseaiium in times of old. They founded the city of Tarsus or Tharsos in Cilicia, Asia Minor (see Acts 9:11,30; 11:25; 21:39; 22:3) before one group branched off westwards. The Assyrians called it Tarzu 803. The peoples of Tarshish have marks of their migration left behind them in the Mediterranean. For instance, a monumental inscription bearing the name of Tarshish was erected by the Phoenicians Canaanites) in Sardinia.

The famous Biblical character, Jonah, attempted to flee to Tarshish:

"But Jonah rose up to flee into Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship' going to Tarshish" (Jonah 1:3).

Tarshish was a city-port on the Mediterranean sea-coast. Where was that? Any Bible scholar will tell you it may be found in southern Spain. 804   For in Spain lay the city of Tartessus. According to Herodotus 805 and Strabo, Tartessus is where Cadiz now stands. Carteria on the Bay of Gibraltar was also known as Tartessos. 806 The Tarshish of southern and central Spain was noted, for its silver, iron, tin and lead, 807  (cp Ezekiel 27:12). No wonder they were named "Tartessus" ("to be smelted").

There is nothing new of course, in believing that the bulk of the Spanish are descended from Tarshish. Daniel Huet, Bishop of Avranches, and Calvinist Pastor, Samuel Bochart of Caen, in the sixteenth century, also believed this truth. 808

King Ahasuerus (i.e. Xerxes, reigned c.485 - 464 B.C.) "laid a tribute upon the land, and upon the isles of the sea" (Esther 10:1). This may have included Tarshish as his empire probably had interests there at the height of his power. 809 One of his chief counsellors was actually named Tarshish (Esther 1:14). This was often done in those times as high-ranking persons were often named after distant provinces. 810

One of Benjamin's grandsons was called Tarshish (I Chronicles 7:10), which may indicate that a part of that tribe either lived in Spain for a time or traded with it. The heart of Spanish or Tarshish civilization was Andalusia in southern Spain, before spreading northwards. Their arts and industries indicates a striking similarity to those of the Phoenician Canaanites and Greeks. The Greeks and Canaanites also established trading colonies in Spain, but this did little to alter the original racial strain. To the north a tiny Nordic element still persists; and a very dark element in the deep south of Spain is extant, being the remnants of the Arabs and Moors which invaded Spain centuries ago.

However, most were driven back out of Spain and thus did not alter the racial make-up of the original Spanish. 811

The Eastern Tarshish

The peoples descended of Javan mutated into two different racial types; one an olive-skinned Caucasian type; the other a yellow-skinned type. Undoubtedly the eastern branch of Tarshish, dwelling anciently in Asia Minor, migrated with Kittim, a similar-looking people, into the Far East. A branch of Elishah may have travelled with them. I am pleased to find that I am not alone in proclaiming an eastern Tarshish. Chambers, in one publication, asserts that there was indeed an eastern Tarshish, but feels that it is in India. 812

Where did the eastern Tarshish finally put down roots? The Bible gives us plenty of clues:

"For the king had at sea a navy of Tharshish with the navy of Hiram: once in three years came the navy of Tharshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks" (I Kings 10:72. See II Chronicles 9:21).

"Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber" (I Kings 20:48. See the parallel scripture in II Chronicles 20:36-37 where it mentions "ships to go to Tarshish").

These scriptures speak in terms of a sea port to Tarshish at Ezion-geber on the Red Sea coast. The New Bible Commentary maintains that although these ships went as far as India, they could not have circumvented Africa to get to the western Tarshish (Spain) 813 as this would have taken too long and would have been uneconomical. This commentary concludes that a careless scribal error must have slipped into the two accounts of Tarshish in II Chronicles. 814 Two scribal errors of the same nature in the one book? How preposterous. Instead here is a mention of an eastern Tarshish, a possibility most scholars overlook.

The same Commentary admits that there was more than one Tarshish and that there may have been one in the Orient, but rejects the idea because there is no record of such a port. 815 We shall see. Custance also believes such, but admits that it is impossible to think in terms of ships of Tarshish bringing ivory, apes and peacocks from Spain. 816 And the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia 817 states that there was a Tarshish accessible from Ezion-geber. 818

Back to the scripture first quoted. The words used here of apes and peacocks are Indian (Tamil), not Hebrew. 819   So the ships to and from Tarshish stopped over in India on the way back to Israel.

……

Josephus renders the same verse as "ivory, Ethiopians and Apes". 820 The Hebrew here for "Ethiopians" is "Sukkiyyim".

There were no black Cushitic peoples in Spain. They were only in East Africa and India. Here is further proof that there was an eastern Tarshish. Undoubtedly, as I stated previously, Tarshish migrated with Kittim. They stayed with Kittim for a time in northern China. The Chinese Yuan-Yuan Empire and Yuanan region take their names from Javan, father of Tarshish. The peoples of Persia called those descended from Javan in Asia Minor Yuna or Yauna. 821 By the way, the island of Java in Indonesia may be named after him.

In China, along the coast, there was a people called the Three Han by the early Chinese writers. Han may be a derivation of Javan or Yahan. They were recognised as being a very different people to the rest of the Chinese. The three were the Ma-Han, Shon-Han and the Pien-Han. There is, as Bishop writes, a very close relationship between them and the people who settled in Japan. 822 No doubt they were the very ones who settled in Japan later. Their culture may be described as partly Chinese and partly central Asian 823, where the Scythians were. Hurlimann traces them back to central Asia 824 and Japanese traditions maintain that they originated in the far west of Asia. 825

The ancient maps, says Professor Odium, show the Sacae or Saka right across south Siberia and into Korea. 826 The name Saka is found in Japan, even on modern maps: Sakai (near Osaka), Saeki, Sakaiminato, Sakata, Sakishima and Sakurai. In addition, the burial customs of the Japanese as revealed in the ancient tombs resemble those of the Scythians, says Hurlimann. 827

Hurlimann continues: the ancient Japanese constructed dolmens. They were radically different to those in Korea; and the Chinese built none. Another proof, he says, that the Chinese and Japanese (in the main) are ethnologically dissimilar. 828 In fact the dolmens of Japan are similar to those in the West and no dolmens are found east of the Caspian Sea. 829

It is not generally known that the Japanese claim in their traditions to have been led to the island of Japan by a symbolic three-legged sun-crow (it appears somewhat like a swastika in shape). 830 It is interesting that the only other area of the world where one finds such symbols are the regions of southern Turkey. Josephus wrote that "Tharsus [gave his name] to the Tharsians; for so was Cilicia of old called". 831 Therefore it should come as no surprise that the ancient capital of Cilicia was Tarsus. Is this where the Japanese first settled after the tower of Babel incident?

Of further interest is the statement in a Japanese document compiled in 720 AD, the Nihon shoki (Chronicles of Japan), that Ninigi, a forefather of their race, had four sons. This may have been Javan who also had four sons. From one son descended the Japanese emperor Jemmu Tenno. This son was

The Spaniards of Asia

When the Spaniards first encountered the Japanese, they referred to them as "the Spaniards of Asia" - by which they meant the Tarshish of Asia. 833 This is where the eastern Tarshish is - in Japan. The Spanish knew that they were descended, to a large degree, from Tarshish.

Colin in his Native Races and Their Customs writes:

"The principle settler in these archipeligoes was Tharsis, son of Java, together with his brothers." 833

Where does the name Japan come from? Very likely from Javan. The name Jih-pun was used by the Chinese of them and later came to mean, rising sun.

The Kittim in north-eastern China are taller than the Magogites, have lighter skins and are fairly dolichocephalic. The Japanese, say the anthropologists, are related to the former. 835 And at least 20% of the northern Chinese in build, proportion and features resemble the Mediterranean-Southwest Asian peoples. 836 So say anthropologists.

In Japan today, four primary sub-racial groups may be identified:

1. The Okayama: The ruling class who are taller and more European-looking than the rest; they have a complexion ranging from yellow to almost pure white; small mouth, finer features and slender build; they live mainly in the north. 837 These are the descendants of Tarshish. Buxton adds that they came from Korea and Manchuria originally 838, near where Kittim settled. Haddon asserts that they descend from Bronze Age conquerors who came from Central Asia while many others reveal Malayo-Polynesian origins. 839

2. The Ishikawa/Chikuzen: A darker strain, related directly to the central Chinese; these have prominent cheek-bones, large mouth, heavily boned physique. They are a mixture of the Chinese and Korean invaders with the original inhabitants. 840 These are from Magog.

3. The Satsuma: A very dark proto-Malay 841 or south-east Asian strain; they number so few as to be almost negligible; they probably drifted into Japan via the Kuro-shino (Black Tide) current which sweeps northward from the Philippines; these dwell mainly in the extreme south. 842 They descend from Ashkenaz.

4. The Ainu: These interesting people are a mixture of proto-Nordic, Australoid and Mongoloid 843; approximately eighteen thousand of them are extant today. 844. These remarkable people have such European features as oval eyes, heavy distribution of hair throughout the body, thin lips and well-developed jaws and chin. 845

Thus, as Buxton maintains, from a physical anthropological point of view, the Japanese are not a mere offshoot of the Chinese race, but a totally different stock, related to them. 846 They also have a higher percentage of wavier hair than the Chinese; the length of head is greater and the cranium smaller. The face is narrower and the eye-fold less developed. 847 Also, together with the Koreans, they exhibit a high frequency of blood group A in common with West Europeans 848

According to the Shinto traditions, the Japanese were a race apart, the Yamato people - not just a chosen people, but the actual seed of the gods and as such formed the "root of the world". This powerful belief in their uniqueness was combined with garnering knowledge and developing it. As such, these aforementioned characteristics, traditionalism, conservatism combined with progressiveness and cosmopolitanism, together with living on a large island, produced some likeness to the British. Indeed, in 1913, Baron Makino, minister of agriculture and commerce observed: "Our ambition is to be to the East what Great Britain is to the West."

Within their core social attitudes and social beliefs, lay the groundwork and disposition toward trade, commerce and industry. This together with strong Shinto traditionalism, produced an Asiatic equivalent to the conservative British and their commercial imperial hegemony. But the Japanese economic culture in particular emphasised that one should be tied to economic households with innate service to customers and employees, maintaining a durable and lasting system to produce wealth and job satisfaction. This economic house has to be maintained and expanded for the benefit of all under any condition. This core value was one of the founding reasons for the Japanese economic power. It no doubt has had and will have its ups and downs, but it seems to be durable enough to survive and revive. Another reason is their adption of Western technology and techniques which referred to later in this chapter.

Japan was a hermitic medieval kingdom until 1853 after which it learned from the mistakes of its neighbours and technology of the West to establish itself as the dominant Asian power by 1895 when it defeated the forces of the Chinese Empire. In 1905 it was able to even destroy Russian forces in Manchuria. It had now become a junior rank power, but wanted more as part of a 100 year war strategy dating back to 1842 when the British humiliated the Chinese in the Opium War.

They believed that they had divine right to rule for they were a superior race, defined in their blood. Biologists began to produce studies on the apeish features of other nations and noting their more refined features, milder body odour and so forth. The Emperor was worshipped as the descendant of the sun goddess and became the divine icon of the race. He was greeted with two upheld and extended arms (the Nazis held one arm up) with shouts of Banzai (= "May you live 10,000 years". Similarly the Nazis cried "Sieg und Heil" = 'Victory and Salvation" or "Heil Hitler" = "Salvation is from Hitler"). The Japanese Imperial Flag was white with a red sun in the centre with rays extending

outwards to each comer, symbolising that they dwell at the rising of the sun, and will reach out to each comer of the globe (the Nazi flag was unconciously an inversion of this with a white circle in the centre and red on the outer. The pagan swastika sat in the centre of the white circle, symbolising the sun wheel).

From this evolved their entry into World War Two. Their propaganda at the time pronounced that the empire's 100 million people and national cohesiveness would achieve glory - "100 million hearts beating as one" or "100 million people as one bullet" and "100 million advancing like a ball of fire". Amongst their greatest strategic mistakes was not to invade Russia, which allowed the Russians to withdraw troops from the East and utilise them against the German aggressors. In addition, instead of invading Australia, they sought to invade Burma and even entered India before being driven back. 849

……

849. Years after writing this section, I came across an interesting article by Joseph Huang on "Japan's Destiny - Yet to be Fulfilled". Following is an extract from it:

"The blueprint in the Tanaka Memorial is not limited to China and East Asia. Its gigantic ambition is not restricted to East Asia, but to include India, South-east Asia and Central Asia — even far-distant Europe is not excluded from its plot. It says,

"Having all China's resources at our disposition,we will proceed to conquer India, the Archipelago, the Islands of the South Seas, Asia Minor, CentralAsia and even Europe itself (Japan's Kampf p. 148).

The Tanaka Memorial recognizes that to venture further, Japan will inevitably clash with the paramount power, the United States.

"But in carrying out this policy we have to face the U.S., which has been turned against us by China's policy of fighting poison with poison. In the future, if we want to control China, we must first crush the U.S., just as in the past we had to fight in the Russo-Japanese War" (ibid.)."

The unabridged copy of the Tanaka Memorial has never been found, and therefore the full extent of their aim and strategies remain hidden. A search among Japanese archives at the end of the Pacific War by Japanese and Americans also failed to turn up evidence of the document. It was reported that all 'sensitive' palace papers, government files and other documents had either been burnt during the war or were destroyed by Japanese authorities between the surrender and the arrival of the Occupation Forces. When the time came for prosecutors of Japanese war criminals to give evidence, they found almost no document to work on.

The global conquest would inevitably include Australia, lying as an extension of South-east Asia. In a book written by Henry P. Frei, he demonstrates that the Japanese Navy was in favour of an invasion of Australia while the Army hesitated immediately after the fall of South-east Asian countries:

"Whether or not to capture Australia became a serious topic for discussion whenever its main proponent, the [Japanese] Navy General Staff convened with Combined Fleet and the Army to decide the options of war aims for the next stage in 1942" (Japan's Southward Advance and Australia, 1991, p. 161).

It was understandable that the Japanese Navy's main worry was Australia. They did not want it to become a crucial gateway for the United States and its allies to position their planes, ships, and soldiers for a retaliation. The Navy Captain Miwa Yoshitake wrote on January 6, 1942, "We must think quickly about invading Australia.. the United States is now in the middle of reinforcing Australia, Fiji, and Samoa" (ibid., p.162). The Japanese recognized that Australia had to be separated from the United States, a troublesome source of military reserves —

"The chief of the Navy General Staffs Planning Section and chief champion of the Australia invasion idea, Captain Tomioka Sadatoshi, deeply feared such a disadvantageous development. He fervently believed that Australia must not become a strategic springboard for United States planes, ships, and soldiers gathering for a counter-offensive ... The war had perfectly shown how little air power meant without the development of air bases. If, however, the United States built up air power on the Australian continent, while at the same time apply- ing pressure from the north, Japan could not possibly win. Australia, therefore, had either to be knocked out quickly, or cut off from America" (ibid.).

While the Navy was pressing for expansion, the Army hesitated. Major-General Tanaka Shin'ichi warned, "Navalplans to invade Australia do not quickly end the Pacific War, but make it the center of the next stage and overextend the limits of our offensive power in the Pacific" (ibid., p. 163). They finally agreed that Australia should be isolated rather than invaded. It was the limitations of the army that saved Australia. Despite that, Port Darwin experienced a surprise attack and was destroyed on February 19, 1942.

On the political front, pressure was applied on Australia to succumb or to be in line with the Japanese Imperialism —

"[Japan's] Prime Minister Tojo Hedeki continued to support pressuring Australia into submission by cutting her communication lines to the United States. In a Diet oration on 21 January he proclaimed decisive defeat for Australia if she continued to fly the flag of the enemy ... And in a further appeal to to the leaders of Australia at an extraordinary session of the Diet on 28 May, Tojo repeated his threatening lure that it was not too late to make the right decision and toe the line with the Japanese Empire" (ibid., p. 172).

The Japanese quest for global conquest is clear. The aim of the Imperial realm is to embrace the whole world under the universe. Japan believes the country and its people have a heaven-ordained and a sacred mission, and that sacred destiny has yet to be fulfilled."

……

Our modern history with Japan has not been pleasant. But what of the future? Before we look at that, let us explore their links to the West in the misty past.

The Hebrews and the Land of the Rising Sun

The Bible makes quite plain that ships from Israel traded with Japan during the days of Solomon, there any evidence of this in Japan itself? Indeed there is.

Professor Odium, in his booklet, Who are the Japanese? noticed certain resemblances between the Japanese and the Hebrews:

"Another thing they have on their palace walls or gate is a picture of a shepherd with a shepherd's crook and sheep. Until these modem days Japan had no sheep ... the origin of the picture was in Palestine. It showed a Palestinian face and Palestinian sheep. Why did the Japanese people put the picture there when they had no sheep?

"Also they have the lion and the unicorn from ancient days in the old Palace of Kioto. One of the pictures has twelve lions, twelve unicorns and twelve serpents; all Israelite regalia." 850

Like ancient Israel, Japan has a Palace of Gihon (I Kings 1:33) with a picture which would easily remind one of Solomon, says Odium. 851 And like Israel (II Kings 23:11), they had horses sacred to the sun. I will quickly list several other items which Professor Odium mentions, although it should be mentioned that he does not believe the Japanese to be Tarshish or even descended from Japheth. But his booklet is most useful as you can see.

Various artifacts such as an ancient bronze frontlet, properly belonging to western Asia, have been found in Japan. 853 Not only do they use scrolls as Israel did 854, but "the Japanese have used the Moochi, or Unleavened Bread from time immemorial" just as Israel did. Professor Odium also speculates that the word Samurai is a modification of the word Samaria.855 The Samurai were a warrior class in Japan.

The Shindai sect or holy class of Japan have some peculiar similarities to the ancient Israelites: their Shinto temple is divided into a holy place and a most holy place; the priests wore a linen dress, bonnet and breeches similar to that of the priests of Israel; the ancient worship of the Shindai seems to be connected with the patriachal-type worship of the Israelites. Of further interest is the fact that the first known king in Japan was Osee (730 B.C.) and he may have derived his name from the last king of Israel, Hosea who died about 722 B.C.

Obviously there were contacts between the two peoples since the time of Solomon and they would have heard about Hosea. 856 Also, Levin states that:

"Hungarian anthropologist Yanka noticed the distinctive type of Japanese nobility, characterized by 'Semitic' traits." 857

In this regard, it must be noted that distinguished Japanese historian, Dr Oyabe, attempted to establish a blood relationship between Israel and the Japanese. He even went so far as stating that the Japanese descend from Gad and Manasseh. Dr Oyabe cited numerous customs of the Japanese which closely resembles Israelitish customs. 858 Of course it is genetically impossible, but interesting. Another prominent Japanese, Dr Yoshitomi, drew attention to the resemblances between the Jews, Basques and Japanese. 859

Surely there can be no doubting now? The Japanese are the eastern Tarshish visited by King Solomon's ships.

A final point, further evidence of Japanese origin in the Middle East is their language. In his daring work Sumerian and Japanese. A Comparative Language Study, R Yoshiwara shows clearly in a most rigorous study that the Japanese language is connected to Sumerian and that the Japanese may have originated somewhere close to the Caspian Sea.860 The Sumerian lands comprised several peoples, including a Mongoloid element. This element has the following striking similarities to the Japanese:

* broad head, black hair, fond of shaving their head and face, oblique eyes, moderate height and stout build

* their national characters were similar: very pragmatic, commerce oriented, great emphasis on wealth, possessions, success, superiority, prestige, honour, recognition

* washed their feet before entering houses, sat cross-legged, arranged marriages, education was essential to the upper classes

* like the Japanese Emperors, the Sumerian kings were believed to be descended from heaven. They were simultaneously civil leader and head priest

* Sumerian staple food was barley as was that of the Japanese (the only other places in the world which had barley were northern Africa and central Europe) 861

* in addition, the Japanese creation story, the Kojiki, includes the quest for Izanami which is similar in many ways to the quest of Orpheus (the Greek god) for his wife in Hades. The descent of the Sumerian Innana to the underworld is resembles the Japanese myth even more closely.

The above is merely some of the similarities.

When I stumbled upon this book I soon realised what a prize I had found. His book throws a lot of light upon the origin of the Japanese and perhaps activities of the post-Flood Sumerians.

This incredible book asks whether there is a relationship between the language of the Japanese people and the Sumerian cuneiform of the ancient world around the time of Abraham. The book is very academic and I note the following from his foreword:

"This is an investigation into whether there may be a relationship between Japanese and Sumerian ... [it] is not meant to be a detailed description of the structure and complexities of each but rather concentrates on the major points of convergence, while pointing out areas of dissimilarity at the same time" 862

While academics today do not wish to be seen to be involved in tracing the languages or nations, this author is quote willing to delve into some strange parallels between Japanese with Sumerian. He utilises The Sumerian Dictionary published by the University of Pennsylvania.

In all, he considers more than 1000 words from Japanese and he shows how the word Sumera is often used in titles of the Emperor, supposedly descended from the Sun Goddess. He shows that Japanese, like Sumerian, is an agglutinative tongue. 863

Japan's Future

The Japanese are a very succesful commerce/trading people. What is the source of that success. John Diedrich in his article "Japan in History and Prophecy" published in Origin of Nations magazine argues that it might be found in the ancient book of Genesis:

"One major factor for the success of Japan, unkown to itself and the world at large, can be found in Genesis 9. Here we have a prophecy for the future working relationship of nations. Genesis 9:27 reads:

'God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem and Canaan shall be his servants'.

The Japanese are known for their eagerness to learn, their capacity to adapt, their discipline and their frugality. These attributes, which are needed to succeed, will not necessarily guarantee success. Success also depends on a conducive environment for world trade' 864

864. Diedrichs 1997: 3

……

Diedrich argues that Japheth, which includes Japan, dwells or tabernacles within the tents of Shem which produces an environment for their success and world trade. They utilise Western technology and systems to drive their commercial hunger.

Speaking of the fall of modern Tyre/Babylon, Isaiah prophesied:

"The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it [Tyre] is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim [north-eastern China] it is revealed to them [how? Because China with her Russian allies would have invaded Europe!]. Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle. Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter [i.e. offshoot or mutation] of Tarshish : there is no more strength. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish : for your strength is laid waste" (Isaiah 23:1-2, 6, 10, 14; see Ezekiel 27:2, 25).

In this prophecy we have clear indication of Japan being a great trading nation with Europe (Tyre or Babylon). In this regard, one senior Japanese official has publicly announced that "we are keen supporters of a strong [United] Europe". 865 When Europe falls to the eastern hordes, Japan will be greatly dismayed, for now her trading empire would have collapsed. This prophecy cannot speak of Spain, which will be in modern Tyre, as part of it; and not looking from the outside in as this Tarshish does.

In other prophecies God warns Japan:

"For the Day of the Lord shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low. And upon all the ships of Tarshish. And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down" (Isaiah 2:12, 16-17).

God will bring the haughty Japanese down as He will with all peoples. They must learn that it is God who has given them their talents; they must thank Him for it, not be boastful about their achievements, patting themselves on the back.

We are told in Isaiah that the ships of Tarshish would be the first to bring the Israelites to the Holy Land during the future second Exodus (Isaiah 60:9). Why first? Because she would have repented of her evil toward the House of Israel. We now know with certainty that in World War Two their plans were to extend their empire through India to Iran; to Madagascar 866 off the shores of Africa; the whole of Australia (with the exception of Tasmania which they were to leave for German settlement); and the western sea-board of Canada, the United States and Mexico. 867

In February 1941, Japan's expansionist policy was publicly elaborated upon by her Foreign Minister, Matsuoka, who stated that "the white race must cede Oceania to the Asiatics". The following year, 1942, a top Japanese military spokesman revealed that they would eventually claim the divine right to control the entire world:

"We will carry the war to London and Washington, and we will destroy all traces of European culture, and we will make our Nipponese spirit dominate the world". 868

Most people today are unaware that the Japanese had their own Mein Kampf in World War Two. It was known as the Tanaka Memorial. This work revealed that a terrible plan had been developed for almost four hundred years. It emerged from a document dated 18th of May 1592. Japan's great hero, Hideyoshi, set forth in this document a plan for world domination and for establishing the Mikado Plan to rule the world.

The leader (Shogun) of the warrior class or Samurai, was dictator during the period known in the West as the Middle Ages. This class was abolished in the 1860s by Emperor Meiji, but Japan merely built up a modern military in lieu, which proved its capacity in 1895 when it took the world by surprise by defeating the Chinese in 1895 and the Russian armies in 1905. Later it seized the German Pacific islands during World War I. But 20 years later Japan teamed up with Germany to form the Axis alliance which included Italy.

On 25th July 1941, Baron Tanaka, Premier, presented the Tanaka Memorial as a blueprint for world empire under the Mikado which led to the attack on Pearl Harbour. In fact, it was their religious belief that the Mikado is directly descended from the Mother of Heaven. As he was the Son of Heaven, the Emperor had to be world emperor and worshipped as very God. (cp II Thessalonians 2:1-5)

General Tomoyuri Yamashita, Japanese Supreme Commander in Malaya, in an interview prior to his execution as a war criminal in the Philippines in 1946, outlined what were his recommendations for a Japanese invasion of Australia. His desire was to push on to Australia after the fall of Singapore but Japanese Prime Minister Tojo opted instead for Burma and India to appease Hitler. Yamashita said that he planned to make dummy landings to draw away the "pitifully small number of Australian troops" followed by landings on either side of the major cities of Australia and cut them off. With only Sydney and Brisbane occupied, it would have been simple to subdue the rest of the major population centres. He felt that the actual conquest of all of Australia was not feasible as it was too large; in addition supply lines would have been extremely difficult to maintain.

He told the interviewers that the Japanese government machinery for ruling Australia was prepared and several diplomats who had previously represented Japan in Australia had been briefed and were standing by to follow the Japanese armies into the country to rule it with an iron fist.

Documents discovered in military archives in 1993 uncovered a Japanese plot to attack Sydney and Melbourne with bubonic plague, the black death. In its Harbin biological warfare centre in Manchuria, the infamous Imperial Army Unit 731 succesfully bred plague bacteria (in addition to cholera, typhoid, anthrax etc) and deliberately infected 3,000 Chinese, Korean and Mongolian civilians with the diseases from which they died horrible deaths. Plague-infected fleas were dropped over Changde in Hunan Province and elsewhere, resulting in an epidemic which killed several hundred in a few days. As the war was drawing to an end, they planned to send plagues into Samoa, Guam and the Philippines as well as Dutch Harbour in Alaska. Journal records showjthat Unit 731 was ordered to ensure that the bacteria could be taken by ship or submarine to Sydney, Melbourne and Hawaii and released to kill hundreds of thousands. 869

At the Battle of Sekigahara (20 October 1600AD), one of the most significant wars in Japanese history, Ieyasu Tokugawa destroyed the opposition and became the Shogun three years later. He united the country and it closed up to the outside world, taking on the characteristics of a hermit.

Of this behaviour, historian Malcolm Kennedy wrote:

"Had she not remained cut off from the outside world during the vitally important years when the colonial empires of the Western Powers were taking shape, Australia, New Zealand, Malaya, and other territories in the Pacific area might well have fallen into her hands rather than into those of others" 870

In the book of Psalms, David wrote that God "breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind" (Psalms 48:7). This prophecy indicates two things: firstly that Tarshish is the eastern branch spoken of: and secondly, they are a great maritime nation which Spain is not today. But the Good News is that Japan will repent. God says that, during the millennial reign of the Messiah, that He will send His people,

"Those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish and Javan, to the isles afar off [not Spain which is relatively nearby Palestine], that have not heard My fame, neither have seen My glory; and they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles" (Isaiah 66:19).

This prophecy cannot refer to the Spaniards, for most of them have heard at least something about the God of the Bible. Not so the bulk of the Japanese.

Finally, Isaiah prophesied of the "isles" and the ships of Tarshish, during the Millennium, returning to Israel her wealth and taking the Israelites on their ships to Palestine (Isaiah 60:9). Diodorus Siculus, a most reliable historian of the Augustine Age, says that the term "isles" here refers to lands which at that time were undiscovered, unlike Spain which was well known.

Japan's and Spain's repentant attitudes show through clearly in chapter thirty-eight of Ezekiel. In this prophecy, Gog and Magog will attempt to wrest this wealth from Israel, but Tarshish will challenge them and take Israel's side (Ezekiel 38:11,13). In the words of the Psalmist again:

"The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents to God. Yea, all kings shall fall down before Him: All Nations shall serve Him" (Psalms 72:10-11).

Japan will repent and learn to serve God, like all peoples will eventually do.
