"AND WHOSOEVER WILL [WANTS] TO BE CHIEF AMONG YOU , LET HIM BE YOUR SERVANT" (Matt. 20:27).
The whole context is: "You know that the princes [leaders] of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. BUT IT SHALL NOT BE SO AMONG YOU, but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister [servant]. And whosoever will [wants] to be chief among you, let him be your servant. Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister [serve], and to give his life a ransom for many" (Matt. 20:25-28).
IN SIMPLE TERMS JESUS WAS SAYING, IF ANYONE AMONG HIS PEOPLE WANTED TO BE BOSS, SOMEONE WHO EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD CALL CHIEF AND THE GREATEST; THEY BETTER GET RID OF THAT IDEA RIGHT NOW!
THERE WAS TO BE HUMILITY IN ALL OF CHRIST'S DISCIPLES!
THE ATTITUDE WAS TO BE "DO NOT THINK YOUR THE CAT'S MEOW" - DO NOT THINK YOUR THE "SUPER-STAR"!
JESUS WAS SAYING BE HUMBLE AT ALL TIMES.
ANY MAN WHO MAKES HIMSELF THE "CHIEF" "THE GREAT ONE" - THEN YOU SHOULD KNOW HE HAS GONE OFF THE TRACKS.....HE IS DOING EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE TO THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS.
JESUS SAID JOHN THE BAPTIST - NONE BORN AMONG WOMEN WAS GREATER [OF COURSE JESUS WAS A CLASS ALL BY HIMSELF AS THE SON OF GOD] - YET JOHN WHEN ASKED IF HE WAS THE ELIJAH TO COME [WHICH JESUS SAID HE WAS] SAID HE WAS A VOICE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS PREPARE YOU THE WAY OF THE LORD.
IT IS WRITTEN MOSES WAS THE HUMBLEST OF ALL MEN.
ANYONE CLAIMING TO BE ABOVE ALL OTHERS..... IS OFF THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW. THEY HAVE DEPARTED FROM THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS.
